Growing up in the “age of
westerns,” somehow the genre roped Maureen's heart and never let
loose. There was just
something about the “code of the west” and the cowboys that followed
it that struck a deep resonant chord.
These many years later, finding a new regularly scheduled western
on TV is basically a non-happening, and the occasional great movie
westerns come few and far between. But
in published form, sagebrush sagas flourish, and to Maureen’s delight
she found that some of her favorite old TV western series really never
ended – they just switched to print and moved to the internet!
A “fan fiction” writer before the term even existed, Maureen
rediscovered Lancer on the web and decided to jump back in the
saddle and share the trail. In
westerns, there’s good guys and there’s bad guys – and then
there’s wonderfully confused Johnny Madrid Lancer, who offers a
delightful fusion of them both. It’s
the richness of that character that keeps her coming back to Lancer for
more, both to read and to write. Maureen
is having a good time exploring the intricacies of our handsome cynical
blue-eyed cowboy, and has been happy to find that she’s not alone.
To all the cowgirls bellying up to the bar with her, she says,
“Whooee! Pass the tequila,
an’ let ‘er buck!” Zine contributions: Vested Interest : The Great Room Bookshelf, Vol. III Little Things : The Great Room Bookshelf, Vol. II The Right Track : Homecoming 2005 Lancer Convention Souvenir Fanzine The Chuckwagon - Hardtack Recipe : Homecoming 2005 Lancer Convention Souvenir Fanzine Riches Repaid : The Great Room Bookshelf, Vol. 1 |
